I have traced my Epps family back to my third great grandfather Micajah T. Epps of Newberry County South Carolina. He married Rebekah Harriett Kinard and had seven children. My second great grandfather Job Kinard Epps and his wife Jimmie Thomas Hunter also had seven children.

His oldest son John Noland Epps was my great grandfather. He left Newberry and worked in Laurens and then Greenville as a time-keeper in textile mills before his death at age thirty seven of tuberculosis. Tuberculosis was to take the lives of several members of this family at a very young age.

The early deaths of Job Kinard Epps and John Noland Epps affected the futures of their families in many ways. It may seem odd but I can see how my existence wass probably shaped more by their deaths than their lives.

For many years my Epps family was a mystery to me and with the help of my cousins I have been able to piece together a good idea of their lives to pass down to my children and grandchildren.  It has not been the story I expected to find.
